Dr. Smart grew up in Maryland in the Washington DC area. She attended high school (LaReine) and college (U of MD) in Maryland, and moved to Florida to obtain her DVM (U of FL). She has been practicing since 1985, and has enjoyed many aspects of the veterinary field. In the past, she has owned her own business, worked with horses and cattle, served as a veterinarian for the Humane Society, and worked as a relief veterinarian in Maryland and Florida. Dr. Smart has served as president of the local Manatee and Sarasota county veterinary associations, and is a past president of the state association, the Florida Veterinary Medical Association.

For the past 30 years, Dr. Smart has focused on small animal medicine and surgery. She enjoys all aspects of veterinary care, especially developing relationships with the pet owners and tailoring care to each pet's needs. Dr. Smart loves the team approach to veterinary care offered by BRAH/NRAH.

Dr. Smart spends her spare time walking, biking and spending time outdoors and with family in Maryland, Colorado, and Jacksonville.
